The Hook & Ladder Theater is proud to present an eclectic mix of Midwest acts showcasing of the new electric folk sound.
Lucid VanGuard
Directed by the songwriting of Karl Remus, Lucid VanGuard navigates an atmospheric realm of sonic cinemas, weaving cryptic lyrical tapestries through a balancing act of calm balladry and symphonic pandemonium. Lucid VanGuard is a part of the Minneapolis based record label/music collective, Kremblems.
TABAH
The four-piece Minneapolis-based band Tabah is often called out in the local press about its vocalist, Cecelia Erholtz. Together the band takes this music to a unique place where psych-heaviness and ethereal-wisp combine in a way that hasn’t necessarily been heard like this before. Symmetry Somewhere is a head-bobbing, mind-bender of an album that was recorded in Nashville, and could pass for folk in its quieter moments, but is still loud enough to piss off neighbors by blowing off their doors.
Joe Kopel
Joe Kopel is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the snowy midwest. Inspired by introspective and wry rock records like Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska and Weezer’s Blue Album, the lifelong Minnesotan set out to build a musical profile that pulled both from Minneapolis’ energetic DIY scene and the lyrical records he grew up listening to.
Humbird
Combining a wintry longing with the warmth of a familiar folktale, Humbird stretches between experimental folk and environmental Americana to embrace the unexpected. This music invites a refreshing dissonance into the house, it leaves breadcrumbs along the path and reflects light back at the stars.
