Duende, an experimental music project that fuses Afrolatino rhythms, gypsy rumba and jazz, founded by master percussionist Chico Chavez, will make its debut. Sonidero Psicotropical and DJ Yaleb Villalobos-MTM will spin their eclectic mixes of electro-cumbia, techno and “house.” The writer Teresa Ortiz will present original satirical poems in the “calaveras” style that are traditionally narrated in Mexico during Day of the Dead. The singer-songwriters Angela Citlali and Ivan Sánchez will perform original compositions in memory of the 43 missing students from Ayotzinapa, Mexico.
There will be a mini visual arts exhibition and art and multi-media projections by local Latinx artists. Magdalena Kaluza, poet and spoken word artist will MC the Launch Party. The cover charge is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Launch Party proceeds will go towards the artists performing that evening in addition to essential festival expenses.
