Hey Lovelites,
“I heard that you feeling Teyana, You said she a fly lil mama” ..Oh yes I am! This album review has been highly requested and it is my pleasure to do this. VII was released on November 4th and this is Teyana Taylor’s debut album. This album is long overdue for the promising R&B artist. Now people can stop saying Teyana, what does she do again? Did you not listen to “The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor? Did you not hear her on the GOOD music compilation “Cruel Summer”? Hope that snippet helps people remember what she does. SING! The girl sings ok! This album is cohesive; the sequence, transitions, and flow of the songs are on point. I know she recorded a lot of songs for this album and I applaud her for the song selections for this album. There are not a lot of features on this album and the features that are on the album are really good. For example, the song “Do Not Disturb” featuring Chris Brown is great, it’s my favorite song on the album. Vocally, they are a match made in heaven. I feel like they should have worked together a long time ago, so I’m glad that they finally did. Also the song “Broken Hearted Girl” featuring Fabolous is nice as well. Teyana was in Fabolous’ “Thim Slick” Video (Soul Tape 3) and she was featured on Fab’s song “Want You Back” alongside Joe Budden (Soul tape 2). Just to name a few things she has done with Fab. Side-note: Fab we are still waiting for that album *just saying*.
The features on the album don’t take away or overshadow Teyana, which is best especially for a debut album. The features make sense. Teyana might not be new to the music industry, but seeing that this is her debut album she has been perceived and received as such. She definitely has to show people why she is the best at what she does. I like this album and it has been my go-to album since it was released. I like it because it has the soulful, vocal strong, and harmony driven songs like: Sorry, and Outta My League. It also has sultry and sexy songs like: Do Not Disturb, Business, Dreams etc. I think this album is solid, there’s a little bit of everything in it. The production is commendable on this album, Teyana sounds amazing and the production really highlighted and complimented her voice. Listening to this album you can tell that Teyana is influenced and draws inspiration from 90’s classic R&B and people like Janet Jackson, Aaliyah, Brandy and etc.. I think this album is a good starting place for Teyana, I look forward to seeing more growth in her music career. There is no doubt that she will be successful and get the recognition that she deserves for her music. Teyana was recently on tour with August Alsina, so I hope she goes on tour for this album because I’ve heard a lot of good things about her set during the Testimony Live tour.
