Fabolous- ‘The Young OG Project’ Album Review

The Young OG Project Album Cover

Hey Lovelites,

In recent years, there are only a few things I look forward to during the holidays: days off, gifts, and new music. Someone who consistently releases music during the holiday season is Fabolous. I remember waiting faithfully by my computer during the holidays to download each SoulTape! I was even more thrilled to be doing so again this year, but instead of a mixtape Fab was releasing his long anticipated full length LP ‘The Young OG Project’. This album comes five years after his last studio album ‘Loso’s Way’, but as we all know he has consistently put out music since then. Fab is also slated to release a sequel to the album ‘Loso’s Way’ sometime in the near future, but he has released this project in the meantime.

Fab was a very important figure in the 90’s hip-hop scene and to this day he still embodies that 90’s swagger in his demeanor and flow, all while remaining very current. So it comes as no surprise that this project was mainly influenced by and sampled tracks from the 90’s. The album features a sample of Biggie’s classic Juicy as well as a flipped and re-done sample of Nas’s Oochie Wally. The album features songs such as Cinnamon Apple and Young OG which are current and relevant references to present times. These two perspectives embody Fab as an artist and were well executed on this project. Of course his high profile features, with Chris Brown, French Montana and Kevin Hart to name a few, don’t hurt either. I like Fab and I’m always eager to hear his new music because he is very intelligent and eloquent with his words, metaphors, and flow. If you don’t pay attention when you’re listening to his music you’ll definitely miss a few things. I saw Fab in 2013 on his “Life is So Exciting Tour” with Pusha T, and I look forward to seeing him in concert again.

If you haven’t already, go and listen to Fabolous’s new album ‘The Young OG Project’. It has only been released digitally right now, but physical copies are coming soon.
