Hey Lovelites!
This past weekend I got my whole entire life. I got to see BIG Freedia, the queen diva, you best tah believer, girl down…. YOU ALREADY KNOW in concert. There aren’t words to express how excited and nervous I was to go to this concert. I was excited because I love Big Freedia, I watch her hit show Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce on Fuse and I’m very familiar with all her music. I was nervous because I felt like I didn’t have the energy to shake and twerk as much as the concert required. LOL. But still I couldn’t wait to experience bounce music live and Freedia didn’t disappoint. The concert was at Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis, which was a very nice establishment. This was my first time at Triple Rock and it was a nice venue for this concert. The sound was good and drinks were decent priced; it seemed to me that things were well managed in there. Before Freedia blessed us with her presence, Minneapolis-based DJ Shannon Blowtorch rocked the crowd. Blowtorch is also the DJ for Grrrl Prty and Part of #Tawst. I’ve seen her DJ sets a few times and she always has the crowed turned all the way UP! After Shannon was done with her set, Freedia’s DJ Juan Jordan came to warm up and get ready for Freedia to come out. Shortly after he riled the crowd up and the show started.
The shake team ( Tootie, Riri, Clarence, Skip, and Reti) came up and I almost passed out!! They are Freedia’s awesome dancers and they sure know how to DANCE! Twerk, Bouncing, Shaking, Jiving, Juking… You name it they do it and do it with so much life and passion! Then finally the queen diva Big Freedia stepped out into the scene. Freedia was slaying! Right of the bat, She started performing all her hits like Turn da Beat Up, Dangerous, Explode, N.O bounce to name a few. When Freedia was about to perform her song “Mo Azz” she asked for volunteers to come on stage and come shake their romp. I may or may not have participated in this activity =)). It was so much fun. Through out the concert the shake team did their thing individually and together, it was dope. Freedia took time to thank the crowd and confirmed they there will be season 3 and 4 of her show on Fuse. A few things you will learn is that Tootie is still a shake girl, Freedia is touring and trying to live life after Miss Vera’s passing and Freedia is Married! Yes! I can’t spill too much but Freedia gave her husband a lil dance onstage and introduced him to the crowd. Me and my girl SKO looked at each other… oooohh we can’t wait for her show to comeback on! Finally, Freedia asked the crowd to join her to sing I’ll be missing you by Faith Evans in memory of her mom Miss Vera. It was a very endearing moment and it was a special moment for Freedia and the crowdl. Overall I came, I saw and I Twerked. Oh did I twerk, I danced, shaked, jumped so hard that I was sweating profusely *don’t judge me* it was hot and packed in there. I’m glad I got to witness Big Freedia and Bounce music live and I encourage everybody to do the same. Freedia is still on tour, so go see her if she is coming to a city near you.
