Homecoming 2015 Concert Featuring Big Sean, Marc E Bassy and Small Pools at TCF Bank Stadium [Concert Review]

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities Homecoming concert at TCF Bank Stadium. When the line-up was announced, I was very I excited to see two artists I am very similar with: Big Sean and Marc E Bassy. Big Sean released his latest album ‘Dark Sky Paradise’ top of the year this year and as performed at many shows, concerts and festivals including Minnesota’s very own Soundset. So it was a delight to see Big Sean return to Minneapolis to play the UMN-TC Homecoming concert at TCF Bank Stadium. At this concert, Big Sean’s set-list  consisited of songs from his latest album ‘Dark Sky Paradise (IDFWU, Blessings, One Man Can Change the World) and he also performed his more popular songs such as: Guap, Beware, Clique, Dance (A$$ remix), Marvin & Chardonnay, High and a few others. This is my second time seeing Big Sean this year, I saw him on the Main Stage at Soundset and now at this homecoming concert. I like his stage set-up and production, he plays with contrast, colors, objects and space to help bring the concept of his album ‘Dark Sky Paradise’ to the forefront.

The other artist that performed that I’m very familiar with is Marc. E Bassy. I stumbled upon Marc’s music randomly on Soundcloud earlier this year and I have followed his music and career since then. He is a rising R&B, pop and soul artist from the west-coast, he made music with the likes of Ty Dolla Sign, Skizzy Mars, Pia Mia, G-Eazy, Kehlani, IAMSU! and much more. He also got a huge co-sign from Kendrick Lamar recently, so it safe to say that he is well on his way to having a great and fruitful career. At the homecoming concert, Marc performed first and his set was a bit short but his performance was a definitely a sight for sore eyes. He performed his more popular song such as: Some things never change, Free Love, Faded, XX, Drunk & I’m Drunk, Do You There and a few other. He was very interactive with the crowd and he had an intimate set. He didn’t have a full band, just a guy on the piano and a DJ, it was simple but very engaging and entertaining. I look forward to seeing him grow as an artist and hopefully seeing him more perform more as well. A very big thank you to the University Of Minnesota – Twin Cities (Student Unions & Activities) for giving me the access and privilege to cover this concert. I appreciate it and I look forward to covering more events at the University.
